Teya Alden
Teya Alden has spent years studying human movement, exercise, and the factors that influence physical function. She became an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine and a Restorative Exercise Specialist, AIM Practitioner, and Somatic Experiencing educator.
Her continuing education included studies in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, along with an in-depth study of brain trauma, neuroplasticity, and the relationship between the nervous system and physical health through the National Institute for Behavioral Medicine.
Despite her education across multiple disciplines, Teya found that these approaches did not provide an effective solution for her own chronic pain. After being told that pain associated with her scoliosis would worsen with age, she continued searching for a better approach.
Teya discovered Functional Patterns in 2019. Through consistently applying its principles, she experienced significant improvements in her pain, movement, and physical capabilities. The results challenged much of what she had previously learned and changed her understanding of biomechanics and the underlying contributors to pain and dysfunction.
This experience led Teya to pursue her education in Functional Patterns, becoming a licensed Human Biomechanics Specialist Level 1. Functional Patterns provided her with the systematic, biomechanics-based approach to human movement that she had been searching for throughout her previous education.
Today, Teya applies this approach to help clients address biomechanical limitations, improve movement, reduce pain, and build greater physical resilience. She has seen clients who consistently commit to their individualized programs make meaningful, sustainable improvements in their physical function and quality of life.
